Retired from service, this aircraft was put into short term storage at Oakey ARMY Base, Queensland.

 

This aircraft is awaiting disposal by restricted tender which closed on the 1st March 2011.

NEW OWNER of A4-210 is HARS.  Aircraft departed Oakey with minimal maintenance required.

210 will join the flying fleet of HARS so the public will remember the Caribou.

  1. Served with 35 Sqn in Vietnam Mar 65 - Jul 68.
     
  2. Returned to Australia for major repairs after it ran into a ditch on landing with crew of Pilot Flg Off Ian Baldwin and co-Pilot Flg Off Brian Young.
     
  3. The aircraft was returned to Australia on board HMAS Sydney in December 1968.   It was floated on a barge form the naval dockyard, Garden Island, down the coast and along cooks river to the De Havilland factory at Bankstown.
     
  4. After repairs taking six months the aircraft was test flown by a mixed crew of De Havilland and RAAF pilots.
     
  5. Represented the RAAF at the RAAF Richmond Airshow 1988.
     
  6. Used by 38 Sqn during numerous flood relief operations Australia wide.
     
  7. A4-210 is currently in long term storage at Oakey awaiting disposal to a historical organisation who will commit to the preservation of A4-210 in a flying configuration.
